Home is where the heart is
"...Home is where our story begins.."
I have always felt safe and comfortable at home and was afforded this blessing growing up in a big family that welcomed one and all. For me, home is a place of retreat, serenity and play with that beautiful balance between chaos and calm. Our family home was always filled with friends and laughter, "the more the merrier". There was always an abundance of festivities and merriment. That moment when friends become family. This sense of home fills my heart and is wherever I am, whether it is our physical abode or travelling around our incredible planet.
“The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back.”
In the words of the great Marvin Gaye, " Wherever I leave my hat, that's my home". I am so grateful for the gift of travel, of being able to explore this incredible planet and marvel at the gifts on offer. Right now the notion of wanderlust is but a distant memory but the feelings of my adventures are the greater part of who I am. My 'style' is creating these moments and heartfelt sentiments all around me wherever I am. How can I create a haven, an oasis, a retreat and a sense of balance? How do I merge the vibes of being homesick with all the feels of holidays? Here is my attempt at a 'go to' list for creating balance in our home.
Zoning Out
Retreat: creating a cosy space of privacy and relaxation | ZONE 1 - bedrooms
Serenity: creating a state of calm and peace | ZONE 2 - bathing, lounging, sunning
Play: enjoyment and recreation | ZONE 3 - swimming, gathering, feasting
Best of both worlds | sharing the love
The gift of home and all its traditions is owed to my family upbringing and the reality of where love resides, memories are created, friends always belong and laughter never ends. A few lessons learned from my life adventures so far:
the intricacies of simplicity
don't confuse symmetry with balance
be prepared for the hit and miss of a market | stop to appreciate the value of the moment
never underestimate the power of a water viewWhatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
